Delivery is the fast. Food is good. Good price for delivery service. I have ordered from here a dozen or so times and I am never disappointed.

Pretty decent late night Americanized Chinese fare. Lately the quality has gone down a tad. But what threw me overboard was the rudeness of their delivery guy. He insisted I wait in the hallway for his arrival while I said would wait at my door with it open, which I felt was already unnecessary for me to do. He then lectured me when he arrived because he had to walk all of 3 seconds. Delivery = Convenience. Upon delivery of the food, a person would go answer their door in ~5-7 seconds. I don't know what this "wait for me here..." crap is. Sadly, not ordering delivery from them ever again.

**STOP DO NOT EAT HERE** We have lived in Silver Spring for 18 years. It was the best in town. I made the mistake of eating here last Saturday night with another couple . We had sushi bad. ell roll and a dragon roll. everything was cheap. no fry shrimp instead fake crab meat . Bull shit! I think there must have newer owners? WE NOW DRIVE TO CHEVY CHASE too Meiwah Sushi Bar -- 4457 Willard Ave. Chevy Chase, MD 20815 | Tel: 301-652-9882 | Very worth the drive!

I'm pretty sad. Spring Garden has been my go-to Chinese place since moving to Silver Spring 3 years ago, and I've ordered from them numerous times (more than I'd probably prefer to admit!) Not amazing, but solidly decent neighborhood Chinese, and in this area even that can be hard to come by as far as Chinese restaurants go. I would order from a different place every now and then only to be disappointed, and always returned to Spring Garden. Unfortunately, my last two times ordering from them there was (in my opinion) a noticeable decrease in quality. First, they changed the dumplings they use and they are completely tasteless either fried or steamed. Then on my most recent order, there was oil literally spilling from the bag of egg rolls. And yes, I do know the proper use of the word "literally" which is why I chose to use it here. Not only did it soak the egg rolls, but it created an oil slick over every single item in the bag. Not sure where to go for neighborhood Chinese now.

Great place. In i miss this place bigtime. We use to live across the street from them n order from them weekly. I never dined in i always ordered out. Prompt and professional service and the food was always hot and delicious

This used to be my go to restaurant nearby for sushi. A few weeks ago I ordered a spicy tuna rolls. No sauce and it tasted muddy. Threw it away. No problem, I thought. Everyone has a bad day. Last night I ordered as salmon tuna and tuna roll. Again, no sauce. The roll was dime sized. And the fish was not. It looked like potted meat in a can. Hey CAMERICSis 1minute away. Get some real fish. Won't be ordering sushi there any more after five years. Wish I could find a place just as convenient.

My friends and I call this place "the diarrhea maker". I'll let you draw the conclusion yourself.

Let's start with the variety - it looks good, but what I'm used to is a dinner special, where you can mix and match. No option like that here. So instead, I got a Pu Pu Platter and pineapple chicken. The latter was amazing and the Pu Pu Platter was...not good. The ribs were over-done, but what was I expecting? Shrimp tenders? What WAS that - with the tail still in? All of it was cold too. Secondly, service. I gave the cashier exact change and she hands me back some random denomination in coins...I told her I gave her exact change and she starts arguing with me rolling her eyes. I won't be coming back here. I have experienced better.

Surprisingly... really good! Very affordable price for HUGE portions! We dined in here the other night; the place is size-able enough. The food was super fresh and original. My son devoured the hand-made chicken dumplings. We enjoyed all the dishes we got: Mongolian lamb, Singapore noodles, beef lo mein, eggplant and chicken, and wonton soup. We brought home enough leftovers for another 2 meals! My only complaint about the food is that we asked for the dishes 'spicy' and they definitely were not (good flavor and fresh ingredients, but not 'spicy'). My only real complaint, is that the place (especially the bathroom) is a little bit dirty--could do with a better cleaning. Service was nice; speed was moderate, though we were there right at dinner time, so the kitchen may have been a little backed up. If you happen to dine in, don't expect too much atmosphere-wise... this place is in a strip mall; but it is passable (if a little grungy feeling).

I actually eat here once a week. Typically on take out so I forget to check in. I'be checked in when I dined in so I guess I are here about 7 times already and 70 times via takeout. Lol This is one of the best resturant in the Silver Spring corridor. When I sit in, I typically am there for a little over an hour. The servers are very nice and attentive. Food is delish, always!! My faves are General Tso Chicken or Tso Shrimp (try them). I also enjoy the fresh made Sushi and Shrimp spring rolls. I am a regular here and when I walk in for take out, they shout my order at me.LOL this is my spot :)

The food is good, fast, and affordable. I love that you can order online via eat24 and it be ready within minutes. I placed an order last night on my way and I arrived 5 minutes early and it was hot and ready. The spring rolls didn't make it home. DELICIOUS!!! I always do take out so I don't know about the delivery side, but I like it. My staple Chinese restaurant.

Solid, but not great. It'll do in a pinch. Fried rice is not bad, typical Americanized Chinese style food. No problem ordering this on multiple occasions. The steamed dumplings are tasty, but a little wimpy for what they change. Again, wouldn't mind re-ordering this again if I had a craving. The General Tso's chicken is one of those things that you have an immense craving for and your mouth waters until you finally sit down, grab one of those saucy, fried chicken cuts, take the first bite, and then realize what a mistake it was to order. Chicken is weak, mostly dark meat, although the majority of the dish is just breading. However, the sauce has got enough sugar and salt in it to keep you munching. When finished, you realize what a disappointment it was, but you'll make the same mistake time and time again. You know what I mean. Anyway, solid 3 star Chinese take out place.

I got the shrimp pad Thai and it tasted like actual spaghetti! They even had basil leaves in there with tomato sauce...I couldn't believe it! I was so disappointed because pad Thai is one of my absolute favorite dishes. I'm afraid they tried to get away with giving me something made poorly because it was delivery. So disappointing.

I will preface this by stating we ordered during a snowstorm (for which I gave the delivery guy a good tip). First, it took two hours for our food to arrive, but I'll let this slide (see above disclaimer). However, I was absolutely horrified by the quality of the food. We ordered eggrolls and General tso's chicken. The eggrolls were super greasy. The chicken tasted old, was visibly overcooked, and very tough. It was not good. It was almost as if they had some old leftovers that were just reheated and coated in sauce. I cannot believe they actually served this. We ended up throwing most of it away AND to top it off we both ended up experiencing stomach issues from the small amount we did eat. I am only giving two stars because the delivery guy was very friendly.

I'd give 3.5 stars if I could. This place is good, but not great. We ordered delivery from Spring Garden tonight for the first time. The food arrived as promised in the estimated 45 minute time slot. The driver was personable and friendly. Super simple and convenient to order online, pay with a credit card, and add tip to the card as well. We ordered the pu pu platter, egg rolls, egg drop soup, general tso's chicken, and sweet and sour chicken. The portions are generous and we have enough enough for another meal or two. Pu Pu Platter - spring rolls were perfectly crispy and tasty, ribs were not my favorite and were a bit tough, fried jumbo shrimp were just ok - not crispy enough and the batter didn't have seasoning, fried wontons were decent, crabmeat fried wontons were ON POINT, beef sticks were just ok and again lacked seasoning. Egg rolls- pretty good. Not greasy like your typical delivery egg roll. Egg drop soup - very good! Not gloopy or syrupy like some others I've had. Also came with a generous amount of crispy noodles. The small size is a very generous portion. General Tso's - We ordered it medium spicy and it wasn't spicy at all. Chicken was cooked well, but there was not enough sauce with this dish. Sweet and Sour Chicken - chicken was a bit dry, but the generous trough of sauce that is included helps. Fried rice - solid and flavorful. Overall, this place is pretty good. We've lived in Silver Spring for 2 years and this is only the second time we've ever ordered takeout from somewhere (we cook at home A LOT), but this is a good go to place if you're feeling lazy and don't want to cook dinner.

Pretty solid Chinese food! I order here for delivery at least twice a month and they always deliver fast, delicious, steaming hot Chinese! Haven't let me down yet-- would suggest everyone in the area try them out !

I was looking for a quick meal that I could pick up on the way home and I thought....why not Chinese?? We pulled into the shopping center on 16th and lucked out with a parking spot right outside. When you walk in there is a counter wit a register where they have an entire delivery/takeout enterprise system taking place. I imagine that this place makes the most of its money off delivery seeing as though their counters were just lined with the familiar brown paper bags and white plastic bag outer shell. There is seating if you want to sit in but the has place a pretty strong small of chinese food. So if you're really sensitive to smell it might not be the best place. We placed our order and it only took 10 minutes of waiting and they have a few chairs there for you. If you are going to get delivery -- I recommend using Eat24, so easy to use and still just as fast. Chicken and Broccoli - This is delicious and pretty healthy. They give you a definitely enough to share for two people. Szechuan Chicken - This was great too. Chicken, celery, and carrots. Each container comes with a container of rice as well. My boyfriend and I each had leftovers so I would say the portions are really great here too.

I recently moved to the area and was interested in trying out nearby areas that deliver. The food was delivered in really good timing and the prices were very reasonable. My brother ordered some General Tso's chicken and I got chicken lo mein. The General Tso's was really good! Great flavors lots of sauce. The noodles, though, were quite bland and adding sauces didn't seem to help. I'd order again for the convenience but I'll probably stick to chicken rather than noodles next time.

I have been a loyal customer of this restaurant for the past few years. I go in for lunch and order delivery often. Their food is usually good as is service. Recently I had a horrible experience when I ordered delivery. The delivery man was rude and inappropriate after delivering food because I did not tip him. Though I was meaning to tip him he left abruptly before I got the chance and I decided not to run after him to give him the tip because of his rude manners. After he left my apartment I got a phone call from him asking if I meant to write in the tip at which point I told him no. Then a few minutes go by and I get a text from him on my cell phone stating the following verbatim: "Next time just do pick up... no tip no service... God bless you" I politely responded telling him that tips are not required and I told him why I decided not to tip him. I also work in customer service and thus always tip well for service rendered but was appalled by his actions and thus decided not to tip. After I sent that text he responded trying to reiterate his point. I decided not to respond as I felt it was best for the matter to be handled by the restaurants management. So I called in to the restaurant to complain. The person I spoke to was not the manager but she told me she would tell the manager the next day. This was Friday, November 14th. I have not heard back from the manager. At this point, though I like the food I will not be ordering from them again. Regardless of whether or not he received a tip he did not have the right to text me on my personal phone and I can't take the risk of getting him or a delivery person like him at my door again. There are many other Chinese food restaurants in the area who I'm sure have a better understanding of good customer service.

We always order delivery, almost exclusively sushi, from the "Yelp Eat24" app, and have always been happy. Ordering is very easy, and there are options to customize each item individually which is nice. The app also tells you when the restaurant receives your order and estimates delivery time frame. The rolls always look aesthetically pleasing, clearly they don't take any less care to make their delivery orders well versus their orders in restaurant, unlike some other delivery sushi I have gotten. The sushi is really good, some of my favorite. The crab wontons are also delicious. I would recommend Spring Garden!

Why is this place only 3.5 stars?? Fancy, friendly. I ordered the orange chicken non-spicy as always, it came out very quickly and presentation was perfect! Definitely coming back!

What happened to the dumplings? This was our go-to Friday night delivery place and we always order their great fried pork dumplings as appetizers. Recently they changed the dumplings from 6 large, juicy dumplings to many small bland ones. What a disappointment! This place was one of the better Chinese delivery places in Silver Spring, but the quality has gone downhill in the past several months. Delivery is fast and the food used to be reliably good and cheap. What used to be a solid 4 1/2 star restaurant is now down to 3 stars for me. I am not sure if the management changed or they are cutting costs or what. Bring back the old Spring Garden, please!

This is the Chinese takeout we get most often because it is super close to our house. My favorites are the Mongolian lamb, sesame chicken, and egg drop soup. I also like how they offer brown rice and the service is pretty reliable/fast. I am super bummed they recently changed their dumplings... They are now fried and more like wontons. They are dry and not like any typical dumplings you would get at a typical Chinese takeout place. Total bummer. Also, they put romaine lettuce in some of their sushi rolls. I don't love that, but it could easily be fixed by asking them not to add it. So, overall, okay. However, I think if another place opened in the same neighborhood, I wouldn't think twice to check that out instead.

We have been ordering take out here for a bit. As vegans, we enjoy the fact that they have a small menu of vegetarian items. We have successfully been able to order items that would normally have egg without etc When ordering online, I write please no dairy, egg, or anything from an animal multiple times throughout the order so it is very clear that every dish should be vegan. Tonight, the noodles we have ordered a few times came with egg. I called to complain and the person who answered didn't seem to care much. She said I could come and get a replacement. I asked for a refund and told her they should at least offer to deliver a replacement dish. She wasn't too interested in being apologetic or providing customer service, so I opted for the refund. Lets see if it actually makes it to my card. We won't be frequenting this place again.

This place has been a "don't feel like cooking" savior. Pros:The food tastes amazing. The egg rolls are some of the best in the city. The Singapore noodles come in three heats and all taste good. I have tried many things off the menu and they have all been very good. Definitely try the above as well as some of the "chinese" favorites such as: sweet and sour chicken, general Tso's, and sesame chicken. The lo-mein in my opinion is off the charts. The portions are also very plentiful and the lo-mein and singapore noodles lasted me up to three days each. Cons:The only exception food-wise being sometimes the chicken dishes are a little over-cooked. Says "free delivery" , still got charged. Had to wait once for food but the majority of the times it was spot on. Overall, a great place to get a great meal for a decent price.

This is a great little Chinese restaurant. The portions are gigantic, absolutely enough to take home for lunch the next day. Me and my boyfriend went in with a 15% off coupon (one of the ones you get in those ValPack envelopes), which they happily honored. We dined in and our server was VERY, VERY nice. The service was quick, but not "this food has been sitting ready in the back for hours" kind of quick. Definitely fresh with crunchy and bright vegetables. The food we ordered: * Egg Drop soup: Great. Rich, hearty broth with a lot of egg. Not syrupy at all, like many other Chinese places. Came with a generous serving of fried wontons/croutons (whatever they're called...) * Steamed vegetable dumplings: Comes with 6 really big dumplings. The dipping sauce is a sweet and spicy seasoned soy sauce. Really good. * Sesame Noodles: Lo Mein noodles with a sesame and peanut sauce on top. I thought it was pretty good, but my boyfriend really liked it. * Vegetarian Eggplant with Green Onions: BRIGHT purple eggplant that is perfectly tender, but not over cooked. The sauce was on the sweet side, but still tasty. I would definitely recommend this as someone's vegetable side dish. So good. *Sesame Fried Tofu: Cubes of fried tofu in a sweet sesame sauce. Only comes with four florets of broccoli. Would still recommend because the flavor is good.

My first goal when I moved to Silver Spring was to find good, solid Chinese delivery. I tried many places in my quest, and while Oriental East has amazing dim sum the rest of their food leaves something to be desired. Spring Garden is my and all my neighbors go to. They are quick and always deliver by their quoted time. You can call in or put in your order online. They even deliver in snowstorms. Don't bother with the rest because Spring Garden is the best.

Solid 4+ Delivered in an astonishing 12 minutes from the time I placed my order (on a Thursday night). Great quality food, but I have yet to find a dish that really wows me--so I'll withhold the 5th star for now. Can't wait to sample more of the menu!

  • Michael J.

Everything we ate was fresh and of good quality, I just found the food to be on the bland side. Delivery time quoted on the phone was spot on, the food arrived hot, our order was accurate, etc. All that said, I might give them another chance-- I mean, there wasn't anything objectionable about Spring Garden, but I'm going to try other places first.

My guest and I arrived around 8pm for dinner. We were seated immediately as there were only 2 other guests in the restaurant. We ordered tea, steamed vegetable dumplings, large shrimp fried rice, shrimp tempura roll and one wonton soup. The tea and soup came first and the dumplings came a few minutes later. Once the waiter put down the dumplings and walked away, I saw a roach crawl from under the plate. I immediately brought it to the waiters attention. He smashed the roach with his hand and wiped it up with my napkin. We were in shock and just stared at him. He was angry and asked if we were still going to eat or if we wanted to cancel the order. Before we could answer, he ran off yelling to someone. My guess was that he to them to cancel the order. He came back belligerent and told us that we could just leave no charge while waving his hands. It was crazy to see how quick he switched up and became angry because we told him a roach was crawling across the table. I have ordered food from there for delivery plenty of times over the past 5+ years but never ate inside the restaurant. Never again will I order anything from there.

My children wanted to have dinner there. After all before we moved, this was one of our favorite spots. The waiter that was to serve us (older Asian guy), came to our table didn't really talk. I was confused if maybe he didn't speak English. Then finally he spoke, and perfect English came out. As he took our drink order, he stood right in front of us, and blew his nose with his bare hand. All we see is this thing shooting out of his nose. The kids look at me, and I was off course ready to go.The children wanted to eat,so the young lady behind the carry out counter took over our table. I got to the bottom of my soup, there was a straight hair in it,not my own. Not my color or texture. My son's ice in his drink had black dots in it. While sitting there I noticed the men from the sushi counter sit at the table when there's no work. When the orders come in, they go to work without hand washing. I noticed one picking around his nose on his face, appeared to be picking pimples. Needless to say, that was my last time going there. It use to be a favorite spot.

Well done.. Spring Garden has become our default chinese carry out/delivery. There's a glitch in their website that orders delivery when we wanted carry out, but the food is good enough to keep us comming back.

I didn't review them yet, that's weird I am here so frequently it almost seems like overkill to check in every time. Granted I've only dined in once, and had take away every other time. That one time was so I could try their sushi (face it, you can't take sushi to go or it won't be as cold and fresh tasting)... it was okay. It wasn't the greatest, but if your husband wants something Chinese, and you want a piece of sashimi, it's a good compromise one-stop-shop. I think their forte is really their Chinese... I'll order their "Singapore Noodles" at least twice a month. Usually it comes with shrimp, pork, and chicken, but i don't eat the last two so I really appreciate they leave them out without a big deal for the modification. They kindly up my shrimp and vegetables quantity instead, and I swear most places won't do that (at least without begging).

The service here was pretty much the opposite of what you typically get from actually Chinese servers at Chinese restaurants: it was fantastic. Our waitress made my night. I'm gonna guess she hasn't been in the position, or potentially the country, for very long, but, in true asian form, she was well extremely well studied. It was clear that she was going down a checklist of what to say and do, and in what order, and her mastery of a remarkably complete checklist was wholly impressive. It didn't always come off perfectly, such as how she asked what we'd like to drink literally as soon as we had sat down, well before we'd had a chance to look at drinks or even take our coats off. She then returned to ask for our meal order almost every minute on the dot. But her regimented yet earnest efforts to do everything exactly right were really charming. She asked for my ID when I ordered a beer (not much to choose from - I got a Kirin Ichiban), as I was positive she would, and she studied it carefully before declaring, "You are 27!" "Yep," I agreed. "You are... 27," she repeated, thinking. "Yep!" I agreed. She excused herself momentarily, then came back smiling and gave me my ID back. I'm guessing she wasn't sure what the drinking age was. For a while, I was just impressed that she'd memorized all of the service steps and related sentences so effectively. Then, I asked if the shrimp in a particular dish was fried or not, pretty certain the question would be a lost cause, but she thought a moment and, in her first deviation from the script, told me, "It's sauteed!" and I felt like an ass for assuming there'd be more of a language barrier. My favorite interaction may have been when she put our plates in front of us and stated the dishes' names like she was delivering an official proclamation: "Shrimp! With! Vegetable!" Anyway, the food was Americanized and mediocre, though better than I'd expected. The place is in a strip mall. The beer and wine selection sucks. BUT for that service - I'll be back.

BE PREPARED TO WAIT FOR CARRY OUT! I arrived at 1:15pm and had to wait for 15 minutes for one order of spring rolls! It's a Sunday and no customers were eating inside. The girl at the cashier was less than pleasant... The spring rolls turned out to be just okay so I can't say I will be rushing back here anytime soon!

First if all, I never have anything but the lunch specials here, so I cannot rate anything else. I'd probably give the place 3 1/2 stars if I could but since I can't, I'll use the text of this review to state that this restaurant is significantly better than many of the places I have given 3 stars to, but not good enough for a 4-star rating. The lunch specials are reasonably priced -- $5.50 to $6 and change for a main course and a spring roll plus a 75c extra charge for soup -- I always get the hot & sour soup, so I always have to include that extra 75c, but that still is quite a reasonable price. However, it is ordinary neighborhood Chinese food, hardly something to make a trip for as I do for, say, Sichuan Jin River or Bob's 66. If you're already in the Silver Spring area, however, that's another story. There is, to be true, a much longer list of dishes on the lunch special menu than usual in a neighborhood Chinese restaurant, a point in its favor.

Sushi is hit or miss. Chinese food is decent mostly. General tsos chicken is too heavily breaded with little meat. However most dishes overall pretty decent.

I live in the neighborhood and have eaten here more times than I care to admit over the past 20 years. This is run of the mill, average fare. Decent for a quick lunch or carry out, but no where near great. I've been to China quite a few times and this is the typical bland American impersonation of the real thing. Never dine-in here for dinner. There is zero atmosphere and the staff is so used to being a carryout joint that they are unaware of what table service means. They forget silverware, forget plates, have no clue what the beer/wine list is, and have no sense of how to coordinate the arrival of multiple orders. In one experience, my sushi finally arrived after the rest of my party had finished their dinners. I had to get it to go and refused to pay. I was really angry.

Whenever I'm in Silver Spring and I feel like getting Chinese delivery, I turn to Spring Garden. Why? Because I'm lazy and I love the idea of ordering food online. Why else? Because delivery is quick, my order is always correct, and the food quality and flavors are consistent. It doesn't knock your socks off - it's your standard Americanized Chinese fare. Whenever I place an order I'm given a 45 minute estimate. 20 minutes later, boom. Chinese food is a'knockin at my door. I actually have tried something off the sushi menu - spicy tuna roll (which is actually a crunchy spicy tuna). There, I said it. I ate sushi from a Chinese restaurant. Is it the best sushi I've ever had? Of course not, come on. But I would maybe possibly, if given some real thought, consider ordering it again ... Never ate in the restaurant itself, probably never will. But I would have no hesitations about ordering delivery from Spring Garden again.

Decent Chinese food, nothing special or above average. They do have a surprisingly good sushi selection at reasonable prices. The service is also quite acceptable. Just your average Americanized Asian Foods Restaurant.

  • Phil D.

3.49 Stars This is one of the better carry-out options in Silver Spring. Also, they have a variety of healthy options, which is a nice change-up from most Chinese food (my wife would probably rate this higher than I would for this reason). The service is quick, efficient, and friendly, the space is kept up nicely, and you can see into the remarkably kept kitchen. The food itself is above average for the region's quick Chinese selection, and the price is reasonable. I'd probably eat Spring Garden 5-10 times per year.

Spring Garden is the best! This is the only chinese food I ever order. They're extremely reasonably priced, very tasty, and they deliver so fast for free! I like their General Tso's chicken, spring rolls, and fried rice.

Best Chinese food that I've ever had.... my husband loves their salt and pepper shrimp. I usually order sushi or their kung pao chicken and shrimp. Spot on all the time. Delicious! I miss this place now that I don't live around there anymore. ... I always visit it when I am in the area.

Food is always great. It appears to be freshly prepared and not sitting around. they have some unique dishes that really combine flavors. The staff is friendly and whenever placing an order for delivery there's always clear communication. I've eaten here several times and have always forgotten to put something on Yelp so I decided to do so this time. EggDrop soup is really good and their boneless ribs are to die for.

If I had dined at Spring Garden once or twice, I would stick with my original three star rating. However, over the past two years this restaurant has been consistent, simple and easy for me. Delivery is almost always within 30 minutes and although I'm not 100% comfortable with the online order function, it exists! Sushi wise, it's not too shabby. Not sure if I've explored the menu more of if it's improved? Maybe it's a little combination of both. Either way, the sushi is satisfying. I'd recommend the Crunchy Roll (shrimp tempura, crabmeat, avocado, cucumber and crunchy coating) and the shrimp wonton soup. Together, they are a perfect fit on that rainy day spent in your sweatpants. Good job Spring Garden! Keep up the tasty food and service!

This is my go to place for a healthy flavorful quick bite to eat. The ingredients are fresh, and the portions are extremely satisfying. This is just about my favorite delivery place on 16th street.

Pretty much my goto for chinese deliver. I get the gen. tsaos. They deliver pretty fast and you can use Eat24.com for weekend coupons ($2 off).

I was moving and I needed to feed some of my friends for helping me move. So we stopped at this place to order lunch. Btw: parking sucks here, there is limited space (shared between all the businesses) and the space itself is tiny. Anyways, we walked in and we get a takeout menu. I personally just wanted some fried rice so I ordered that and kung pao chicken, chicken & broccoli and some other dish. The order was about 37 dollars for four dishes. It took about 15 minutes for our food. My food (fried rice) was excellent and it came in not one of those Styrofoam containers but a plastic round container. It made warming up easier and safer. All the food was there, hot, fresh, and warm. Yummy!

I was excited to discover this place, which is super close to my current apartment. When you first go in the atmosphere is a bit sterile and even sketchy. However, as you dine there they try to add some nice personal touches, and in my opinion do succeed. For instance, they bring you orange slices at the end of your meal which I thought was a very nice touch, and will not charge you for their green tea. Our waiter was attentive but as some others have noted I sometimes felt he was following a script at not quite the right pace- he asked for drink orders literally the second we sat down and left us entirely alone during the meal without once checking in. The food was yummy, though not the best I've ever had. I highly recommend the salmon salad. The noodle dish I had was just ok, as was their duck which my friend had. However, the food was solid. Really 3 and a half stars but not really good enough to round up to 4. I recommend popping in if you're in the area and want some reasonably priced, no frills Chinese.

DREADFUL! We just moved into Silver Spring, and are looking for a good Chinese delivery restaurant, and I was lured in by all the good reviews. I truly do not understand the raves ... is this place under new ownership or something? To start with, delivery, from a mile away, took almost an hour. But I'd read the reviews and I knew they were sometimes slow, so we were prepared for that. The problem was the food. This was probably the worst Chinese food I've ever eaten, and I've eaten a lot. The Kung Pao chicken was rubbery and had an ammonia taste. The hot and sour soup was neither; there was no "sour" at all, and even though we requested the hottest level of heat, it was bland at best. Worst of all was the shrimp with vegetables; the shrimp was overcooked to the point of being mush, possibly in hopes of hiding that it didn't taste especially fresh. The egg rolls were unremarkable but fine, the chicken fried rice was the same. But these were the high points of an otherwise largely inedible meal. Prices were fine, and portions were large, but that meant little since most of it was so bad we threw it out. We'll look elsewhere for delivery Chinese.

This is a great delivery place. Expect a 45 minute wait for food. Check your order when it arrives. Also, they charge a fee if you are "out of range." The food is worth it. I order here once or twice a month. My daughter loves the steamed dumplings and I love the veggie dishes.

Ordered Egg drop Soup, Curry Beef and Combination Fried Rice. Based on those three dishes I have to say this is the best Chinese food I have tried in Maryland. It was flavorful, meat was tender, Egg Drop soup was so tasty. Ordered online (Eat24) and delivery was good. Driver was polite and nice. Prices excellent. Will have to try their sushi menu next and if their Chinese food is anything to go by it should be good too!

I was going to give 4 stars because of the great quality of food, which is some of the best I've had ..but man is their delivery service slow! Most carryouts within a 4 mi radius can deliver within 40 min, usually closer to 20-30 min. These guys consistently take 45-75min. I think I'm gonna have to continue shopping around for better quality Chinese delivery in the area.

  • Desi W.

Used their delivery service. They were fast and nice. So for that I'd give 5 stars. The wonton soup was really good. But the crunchy roll had too much sauce in the roll itself. All in all I would use their delivery service again.

Serviceable but not great. Seems like they were better a few months ago or maybe the chef had an off night. We had some decent standard Chinese dishes - stir fried rice, beef chow fun - but the other dishes were just so so. And don't get fried shrimp appetizer - they are like frozen breaded grocery store shrimp. Good if you need a Chinese fix in Silver Spring but if you can drive I would try someplace in Wheaton.

Their ordering system is the BEST! :) Food is nice and tasty. If you like it hot, don't be afraid to choose the "hot" option, medium tends to taste kind of mild to me. The price is very good, was delivered earlier than expected, and free delivery! ==5 stars==

The food is quite good and the suishi as fresh as can be. Surprisingly better than its 'Washingtonian Best Cheap Eats' competition 3 blocks away. Only issues I've had on my 3 visits are They ALWAYS forget to bring my Hot and Sour soup so I have no idea how it taste. There are usually 4 people at our table but somehow they manage to forget to prepare someones order EVERYTIME. I had a sample of everyones order for dinner and they shared mine for dessert. It took that long. If they could remember the orders and expediate them in a timely fashion, overlooking the decorum... I'd give them 5 stars and not feel cheated when I leave my 20% tip.

Got hungry while watching Kylie Kwong make roast duck and decided to order in. The roast duck is probably wonderful here, so I ordered it. The delivery guy was quick. I opened the container and I got...crispy duck. I double checked my order to make sure it was the roast duck and not the crispy duck that I ordered. I called the restaurant about five minutes before closing, and they hung up on me. Not a happy camper today.

This is it. My number one go-to for Chinese delivery. They are quick, prompt, always have everything you ordered and never miss anything, and the food is great. If you live in Downtown Silver Spring, you can expect your meal in 15 - 20 minutes at most (although the online thingy will say 45 minutes). They don't mess around! Everything from here is great. Even the sushi. When they deliver sushi it's always fresh and good (that's tricky with sushi delivery!). By far the most consistent Chinese delivery in the area. I use the Eat24 site online that gives small discounts when you order. You can also add gratuity to your account and save your previous orders for efficiency.

Nothing to me really stands out about this Spring Garden Chinese food- not really. Then again, every time I get food from them, the rice is always fresh, the meat is always cooked, the vegetables are good quality, and I've yet to encounter a 'mystery crunch' in any dish. Which, I suppose, actually does count for quite a bit, considering a lot of the competition. A big reason for the place losing it's stars has to do with inconsistency; whether your customizations for an order (say, no sesame seeds on an order of sushi, or something) are actually met, whether the person taking your order is impatiently barking at you over the phone, or whether the delivery person is pleasant or- in one case of a tip misunderstanding- downright obnoxious, all change day to day. One last inconsistency is the huge differences in the way dishes are prepared / cooked. I can't stress enough how different dishes can be; I know that each cook prepares things differently to a certain degree, but this surpasses that. Example: One day, an order of sesame chicken will come covered in a sweet but tangy brown sauce (very good consistency and taste) with enough left over to add on over your rice or vegetables. The next time you order it, it's completely different; the chicken is crispy, and the sauce is much thicker (almost like molasses), is not so much sweet as caustically spicy, and the amount of sauce is limited to what coats the chicken, alone. Of course, both dishes had sesame seeds and chicken- but that's pretty much it, as far as similarities go. To summarize, starting with the 'negatives': Cons: - Very inconsistent recipes - Sometimes rude to customers - Don't always follow customizations, no matter how clear you try to be. Pros: - Reliable time frame of delivery (for us, they're usually even early) - Your order is right almost every time (and when they DO remember your customizations, they're always followed to the T) - Good quality, fresh food - No mystery bits (Which I can NOT say for a lot of the other places) - Great value on the lunch specials- huge portions for a good price. Fed four people on two of them, with leftovers. I suppose the bottom line is this: Spring Garden isn't the perfect restaurant, but it's a far cry above the others I've tried in the area- and I've tried most of them. If you're looking for a good, reliable place, but aren't too concerned with the dishes being 'the same' every time, I'd recommend this as the restaurant for you.

A gem in the otherwise cookie cutter gentrified Silver Spring. Lunch specials are reasonably prices and come in large quantities. The sushi is unpretentious and simply magnificent. I plan to make this place a regular lunch spot.

  • Bridget M.

Not too impressed. Ordered the beef and broccoli, and the beef was sort of metallic-y looking, which was...off-putting, to begin with. The entire dish was sort of bland, too, including the fried rice. The only plus was that the broccoli was nicely prepared--really crisp and not soggy, like some stir-fried vegetables can become. I think I might look to another Chinese restaurant the next time I want takeout.

I freaking love their spring rolls!! I will walk out here and back to metro for two orders of them. They're piping hot, super crunchy, and have a great flavor. General Tso's is delicious. But then I've never had bad general tso's... The vegetable lo mein was really, really forgettable. I've only eaten in so I have no comments on delivery.

Had the dragon roll the first time I ordered from Spring Garden. Pretty decent but I was still hungry. My second time, I ordered mongolian lamb which was very tasty. This has definitely become my go-to Chinese/Japanese spot.

I got takeout here a couple of times since moving into the area. They're on Eat24, which at first I didn't know was A Thing because in Philly I always used GrubHub. But I digress. I've had the General Tso's chicken, beef chow fun, sweet and sour pork, steamed pork dumplings, and the sushi. All were excellent except for the sushi; I only had it once, so maybe I was just unlucky that day. Everything was ready on time, and they were very friendly when I went in to pick it up each time.

Out of all the Chinese restaurants in Montgomery Co., this place has the best tasting food and has great lunch special. It's casual, sit down, Americanize Chinese. They do have take out.

The fried crab rangoon and spring rolls are delicious along with the fried rice, but the general zaos or szechuan chicken was overly doughy and fried with very little chicken to breadedness ratio. Kinda grossed me out. The first time I had it, there was sufficient chicken to friedness and the 2nd time was a bust. Still it is one of the few places around silver spring that delivers without a charge and it is fine for fast food delivery american chinese food.

After living in Silver Spring for a little over a year I can honestly say that the best thing about this place is that its consistent. I like that you can order via phone or internet and be fully understood and have your order read back to you...and its correct. The food is typical Americanized Chinese food but it is good and I find the quality better than other places in the area. The delivery is usually prompt. I've only ever had to wait more than 20 minutes once or twice. I've only ever physically eaten in the place once and I found that the atmosphere was mostly people coming in to pick up their orders but the table was clean (not sticky like you find at other places) and the service was prompt.

The food is marginally better than other Chinese restaurants that deliver but the time to deliver is terrible. We ordered on New Years Eve and it took in excess of an hour for the food to arrive. We decided to give them another shot and I am typing this as I am in the second hour of waiting for the delivery. We have called twice and the only conclusion I can draw is that they are not telling us the truth about when the order will actually arrive. We won't order from here again.

I haven't been on Yelp for ages, but wanted to be sure I got on to give a poor review for the awful customer service I just received. After spending my money with Spring Garden (including making sure that my family, friends and co-workers also spent their money there) for years, they wanted to haggle me over an extra 75 cent charge that I should NOT have been charged. I order practically the same thing every time I order lunch there, and for some reason, THIS time was different. Adding a wonton, eggdrop or hot & sour soup costs 75 cents extra when you get a lunch special. Spring Garden also offers an option where you can get half egg drop, half wonton soup. The woman on the phone would NOT give me the mixed soup (which literally involves putting half of the wonton soup and half of the egg drop soup in 1 container), and instead wanted to haggle me for the 75 cents--after I have undoubtedly brought THOUSANDS of dollars of business there. I am a stickler for customer service and customer loyalty. The food is good, but to be honest there are FAR better Chinese places, including Oriental East on East West Hwy, or Golden City if you need delivery. Not only did Spring Garden lose a long-time customer, they are losing the business of my friends, co-workers and family members who I turned on to the place. All for 75 cents. Hope it was worth it.

Get's an extra star for being being able to order delivery online, foodler.com/MD/Silver-Sp… The spring rolls that came with the lunches were cold and very small, but tasty. The steamed pork dumpling appetizer was good, nothing special, but the sweet soy-sauce dipping sauce was just right. The lo meins were good lo meins, but they should give you more lo mein and no rice for lo mein orders. The chicken and broccoli was tasty. The curried lamb was probably the best. At first, I thought that it was under-spiced, but heat came on slowly until it arrived at a perfect level for a cold, December lunch.

  • P C.

Pros: eggplant with garlic sauce and fried rice were unusually good, fresh veggies, not greasy, decent sauce. Cons: chicken broccoli was meh. Service was a disaster, but they were nice about it. Good for kids, especially if one wants sushi and one wants Chinese.

Great place to get inexpensive sushi! For about $10 you get 10 gigantic rolls. Delicious! We tried the shrimp tempura roll and the crunchy roll.

Spring Garden is consistently good! I live right across the street so I have had delivery (yes I know it's lame since I live so close) and I have eaten there. First, the delivery is always 20 minutes no matter how much I order. The atmosphere in the restaurant is comfortable and it's nice that you can enjoy some beer and wine. The sushi is always fresh, it's easy to make modifications to a dish, and they offer a nice variety of dishes that serve as a good alternative to the traditional greasy dishes you can get at most Chinese take out places. I definitely recommend if you live in the Silver Spring area or if you are passing through.

When I first started ordering from here it was fantastic for a delivery place. More and more, the quality of the food has diminished. Not only this, but every time I've ordered from here the containers have all been full. Ordered Mongolian Beef, among others......All containers full of food, except the Mongolian Beef dish. This was the best dish that arrived but the container was more than half empty...come on. Just because I'm ordering one of the best things off the menu, it shouldn't constitute skimpness, but unfortunately someone thinks otherwise. Hopefully, they will get back on the right track with quality and consistency.

I normally am scared of Chinese food because I don't trust the quality meat they use. This place made me believe again. Service was fantastic. Food was very tasty. I got the mango chicken and my friend got the fried beef. The portions were HUGE. Food came out in ten minutes or so. For the price, I was really surprised at how much they gave. I don't know what kind of sauce they use for the fried beef but it was amazing. Throw in a 8for15 Groupon and we were happy. Had enough food left over for another meal. Nice touch is they brought out orange slices with the bill. Really like this place and will def be back.

Ordered takeout three times now. I highly recommend the orange chicken and wonton soup; the chicken dumplings are also tasty. The food has been delivered quickly and everything is flavorful. You can also order food online from eat24hours.com . You earn cents back by ordering online. It's fantastic!

The Mongolian Beef here is truly without peer. One of the best dishes (along with the "steamed pork" from Sichuan Pavillion) I've had in a LONG time.

The order was ready quickly in ten minutes for us to go pick it up. The crunch roll was very big and very good. The volcano roll was considerably smaller but delicious. Servings of fried bananas and lychee are big! The fried bananas also have honey which make them even sweeter. The lychee are definitely something to try, almost like peaches or canned apples maybe. The fried pineapple sounded good too. I read that delivery would take too long, so I'm glad we did carry out since everything went smoothly. Everything was tightly packaged with no spillage in the bag. Pretty good prices too.

When I am ready to collapse in a heap of exhaustion, I go to foodler.com , order from this place, and it does not disappoint. Delivery is fast and friendly. The wonton and egg drop soups are fresh and tasty, and portion sizes (even for delivery) are generous. Don't waste your time on the pooo-pooo platter. The name says it all. The Mongolian lamb, although labeled "spicy" isn't - but it IS super yummy. My favorite hot dish is probably the crispy pineapple duck, which I could eat until I quack. Perhaps the most impressive dishes are their sushi that is delivered right to my door. The crunchy roll and double dragon roll are my current favs, and foodler always grants foodler bucks, which takes about $10 off my order each time. A life saver!

when I moved to SS in Aug 12, read reviews, and ordered....it was amazing. I loved my order so much that I threw out other options. Well, 4 orders in.....it's time to share the 'praise'. I'm writing this review tonight because my tofu selection had small pieces of chicken or beef or whatever that was and the deliv guy must hate stairs because he refused to look or speak to me. my veg spring rolls continue to have pork, shrimp or both. So unless you figure out a better way to add veg spring rolls to your order, good luck with what arrives in the bag! I try to be forgiving and I have NEVER taken the time to post a review for friggin Chinese food, but after 4 orders of hit-or-miss, the other neg reviews start to carry some weight. All in all, when I spend $25 for a single-person Chinese food delivery and it continues to fail, I have issues with 'the best in silver spring' reviews. Not to mention my order delivered with non-vegetarian bits in the vegetarian selections! It's a shame, because I really like the food; when it's what I actually ordered!

I know I am really hard on DC area Chinese food. I have to say that this is the best place I have been. Unfortunately it is also nowhere near where I live, so I probably won't get to have it very often. Anyway, the prices here are a tad bit high, but I think it is worth it for the quality difference. The egg rolls were so delicious (and, as I mentioned in a previous post, egg rolls are rare around here). The sesame chicken was also very good. Be forewarned - I ordered it mild and it was pretty spicy. Not unbearable, but if you are sensitive to that sort of thing you should be aware. I am not a big sushi person but it got good reviews from those who ordered it, and the portions were sizeable. The delivery took FOREVER. It is nice that they have online ordering but it took a solid hour to get there. The address we were having it delivered to is a little hard to find so i will give them the benefit of the doubt.

Was ultra-lazy one night so decided to order from them online off of the Foodler site. It was super-convenient to do so and they delivered within 40min for free. The hot and sour soup was really good and so was the pu pu platter. Highlights off the platter were the fried shrimp, beef sticks, and shrimp egg rolls while I found the fried wontons and cream cheese wontons inedible and beyond greasy. Their fried rice was also decent. It's nice to know that there's a good delivery Chinese option in the neighborhood for those sorta nights that you just wanna hide out and gorge.

This is our favorite for Chinese delivery: order online on their website (very nice ordering system) and get it in reasonable time. Reliable, good quality. I would rate it 3.5 stars, but, since there are no half stars, I am "upgrading" to 4 stars, but with couple catches: 1. as other reviewer mentioned: the inconsistent menu. Over the time we discovered that singapore noodles, hot and sour soup and edamame are excellent, fried rice is Ok, but spicy hot and sour cabbage was not good at all. On the plus side, the menu on their website has some notes from previous users that mention some strong and weak choices. 2. making special order does not work: although their online ordering allow to add some instructions (i.e. one order for hot noodles and one order of medium noodles), but you will get either both hot or medium. Once you know about these catches, it's very good.

While I have not ordered Chinese food from them in quite a while, I can say that it was consistently good (like jax g. said); better than the place that is walking distance from my house. What brought me here was a craving for sushi. They are yet another Chinese restaurant that has added sushi to their menu. It too is consistently good. Yet, they have not even been serving sushi for a year yet and they already raised their prices. Tuna rolls were $4 and now they are $4.95. California rolls, my "I'm not very adventurous" standby are now $4.50. I like them a lot, but I wish the sushi chef would put a tad more avocado in them. I plan to go back when I am not rushed for time and maybe dine in. It is quite pleasant and well lit. The 8pc Crunchy Roll (Shrimp, Crabmeat, Avocado, Cucumber, Kampyo, Yellow Pickled Radish & Egg) for $10.95 sounds appealing. Hopefully the sushi chef won't turn his back next time when I drop his tip in the jar. Drat!

I work down the street from here and will go here for lunch. I'm always quickly seated and quickly served or when I do carryout, it's always ready by the time I walk down there. Never tried the sushi here- a Chinese place is not my go to for sushi (maybe that's just me...). The food is decent- not over greasy, and the veggies they will serve on the side of meat dishes are fresh, which is a plus. A good place for some quick carry out or a quick lunch.

I feel sorry for anyone who thinks this place is amazing..... because GUESS WHAT..... YOU'RE EATING ROACHES. Yes, roaches. I work in a popular salon in Silver Spring and we used to order from Spring Garden 3-4 times a week and gave them very good business. We were loyal until a coworker of mine was bringing a spoonful of Wanton soup up to her mouth only to discover a fat, bloated roach doing a backstroke in her soup. Immediately, she says," Oh my GOD I'm going to throw up", we all looked over to her as she threw the spoon down and ran to the bathroom. After oohing and awing over how big this sucker was, I decided to let Spring Garden know they had a roach problem. Although I'm sure they already know because if you see one, there are about a thousand more. I called and asked to speak to a manager. Someone put me on the line with a woman and I explained to her what happened and that we are so loyal to Spring Garden and I was actually very nice. I don't mean to insult her intelligence but her response was pretty dense. She just kept saying," Oh, ok.......Yah.... Oh, ok...."( kind of like Mrs.Swan on Mad TV.) She didn't even offer a refund or anything in return. This woman clearly did not care about anything I had to say, and I'm sure she knows her business will still flourish with, or without our business. That's why I decided to write this review, because of her complete lack of remorse or care for what had happened. So enjoy the roaches people! Jokes on you!! They got your money. I mean, roaches are full of protein right? OH and also I guess the driver guy thinks he should be tipped 20% of what the total order is, isnt that crazy?! He looked at his tip one day infront of us and said," Thats it?"... YES thats it. My work orders about 3 bags of food for our staff. Are you going to stay and serve us the food until were done? We atleast give him 10 bucks or more, stop crying about your tip or quit driving! You DROVE the food to us, we did not sit down at a table where you served us. Which ironically happened before we found the roach in our soup and ordered for the last time. Coincidence?

I'm writing this review to remind myself that I am not a fan of this restaurant! I've ordered delivery here twice (the second time forgetting that I'd tried it once already), and both times I've been disappointed. The Kung Pao chicken is slimy, and the orange chicken had something in it that would occasionally unleash a really bitter taste. The chicken mai fun was decent, but not so great that I'd order again. My search for good delivery Chinese in the Takoma/SS area continues!

Had to call 4 times before someone would speak to me and when she did she was so incredibly rude I almost cancelled the entire order. The young girl may just be an angry teenage but its a very poor reflection of the business. The food has always been decent. Very American Chinese food.

I am flabbergasted by how positive the feedback is for this place. Against my better judgement, I keep giving Spring Garden another chance to change my mind based on the generally positive reviews, free delivery, and proximity to home. This is the fourth time I've tried this place for takeout and it's just gone from bad to worse. After experiencing a goopy, soggy mess of General Tso's Chicken, I decided to give the sushi aside. The nigiri was chewy and tough and the spicy tuna was minced beyond recognition. Their chow fun is forgettable and aside for an overwhelming saltiness, there is very little flavor to their soup. This is just bad quality food. I mean, Note to self: stop being lazy and drive up the road to Full Key in instead.

If you absolutely HAVE to have Chinese, this place will give you Chinese food. The price was fine, the delivery was quick. But the meat was chewy and the flavors were lackluster. We tried it twice (because you never know) and won't be ordering it again. Still on the hunt for decent Chinese delivery but we've probably been converted completely to Thai food instead.

Spring Garden puts other sushi places in downtown Silver Spring to shame. That would be about 2 other restaurants, but hey, they'll probably take what they can get :) I order delivery sushi from here about once a month. It's always just as fresh and tasty as if I had ordered it in person. It comes in a plastic sushi box, but don't let the presentation fool you. The prices are about average as sushi goes. They're located in a strip mall right across from my place, so that probably makes the delivery noticeably quicker than if I were ordering from across town. But hey, at least they don't laugh at me for ordering delivery from across the street. One day, when I'm feeling especially frisky, I will trek across the street and try the sushi in person.

Just finished our first take-out meal from here, and we were pretty pleased. After living in Silver Spring for 8 months we still had yet to find a go-to Chinese place, until now. Our barometer for any Chinese restaurant is General Tso chicken. I really liked Spring Garden's GT sauce and it was not overly battered. I was in the mood for sushi and was pleasantly surprised by how fresh and delicious it was (I did not have high expectations with it coming from a Chinese restaurant). I got the Ocean Roll which was eel and avocado topped with avocado and mango. I never would have thought of this combo, but it was so tasty! This will certainly not be the last time we order from Spring Garden...and very much looking forward to free delivery :-).

Out of all the Chinese places around downtown silver spring, Spring Garden has to be my favorite. The meat they use seems to be higher quality than most other places, and I haven't been disappointed yet with anything I've ordered. I also like that they deliver and that you can order online from Foodler. Their spring rolls are also very tasty! I have tried their sushi a few times, some rolls and some eel nigiri pieces, and while it isn't the best sushi I've ever had, I did enjoy it, and considering the limited options in downtown silver spring for sushi, I would go back for some.

I've been sick for almost a week and a half. What a bore, I say (try saying it with a British accent, Professor McGonagall style). I haven't stepped out of my apartment unless absolutely necessary, and feeding myself was easy enough with foodler.com at my fingertips. One of my favorite places to order from is Spring Garden in the strip mall at 16th St and Spring St in Silver Spring. They're consistently fast at delivery and their food is mostly decent. I always get soup, and my favorite is sweet and sour - good flavor and lots of vegetables and tofu. The wonton soup is alright, but the broth is a bit bland. My second favorite soup is the egg drop soup - I know, it's so boring, but I love the tissue paper thin sheets of eggs floating about the gently viscous soup. I usually add a bit of soy sauce and just a touch of sesame oil to it and it makes a pretty good soup about 10 times better. Now, I ordered their seafood soup as an experiment one day, and it was blech, gross, ew. It had quite a bit of shrimp, scallops, imitation crab meat, and calamari, as well as water chestnuts, bamboo shoots, carrots, and celery. But the broth was so boring and no matter what kind of condiments I added to it, I couldn't make myself eat the damned thing. Their lo mein is pretty good - I have tried their beef, chicken, and shrimp lo mein, and I think shrimp is the best. Overall good seasoning, not too oily and the noodles have a good texture. Hunan chicken's pretty good also - lots of veggies and chicken doesn't taste as fake as some other Chinese delivery places. I don't know if you know what I mean, sometimes the chicken seems synthetic in texture and flavor - same goes for beef. I wish the hunan chicken was a bit more spicy, but that can be amended with some red chili oil or sriracha. My favorite thing about their food is that their sauces don't have the thick, goopy texture of sauces that most Chinese delivery places have - one can almost convince oneself to believe that they don't come in a gigantic tub labeled "brown sauce." They also have sushi on the menu, so I decided to try it. After browsing through a bunch of items that you can find everywhere, my eyes stopped at crazy roll. It was salmon, avocado, and cucumber rolled in nori and rice, tempura battered and fried, then cut into 8 pieces, and sprinkled with chopped scallions and tobiko. It looked pretty good, but it didn't taste so good. Actually, it was pretty nasty. It was squishy and mushy in texture and there was no flavor - the salmon was pretty flavorless, and the rice was too soft. Even after being dunked in way too much soy sauce it was bland. After 2 pieces, I was forced to throw it out. It's called crazy roll for a reason, you have to be crazy to eat it!! The almond cookies that I got for dessert was quite good. Nice and crispy but not hard, and you can definitely taste the almonds. I love that it's not that sweet - it goes perfectly with a cup of coffee. There are 4 cookies in an order and out of tonight's order, it was my favorite item. If you're ever looking for food to be delivered, check out foodler.com . And if you're looking for Chinese food in Silver Spring, definitely give Spring Garden a try, but stay away from crazy roll. Seriously. Do try the lo mein and the almond cookies. Tasty tasty!!

2.5 stars. 3 for food. 2 for service i was so excited to try this place after seeing the great reviews. To start off, i have to admit that I dislike seeing low ratings solely based on service. Please keep in mind, this is based on food and the service. The service here was horrible. I usually overlook poor service if the food was wonderful, but the food was "meh" and the service was inexcusable. The waitress had no idea what to recommend, because she said she had not tried any of the food. That's understandable, because it's not like the restaurant will serve her free food just so she gets an idea of what to recommend. but her final recommendation was "Get the crispy pineapple chicken. I've tried a little bit of the SAUCE, and it was pretty good". Even if it's not a personal recommendation, I feel like she could have recommended a dish based on other customer's orders. I ordered the crispy beef, which was crispy, but had a weird aftertaste. There were thin slivers of unrecognizable veggies and literally THREE thin slices of green pepper in my entire plate. I chose this plate because my waitress told me this had more veggies than the other "pineapple chicken". I only ate a little and was nauseated for the rest of the night, even turning down ice cream. I dined with three other people and our dishes came out at separate times. Also understandable if the dishes are heavy and they're brought out one after the other. Sadly, there was a (at least) five minute gap between each dish. Mine came out last, but took so long that my friends asked what I ordered and why it was taking so long. Like I said, I only ate a little and asked for the rest to be packed. Ten minutes pass and the waitress comes back with the check (which she didn't split), but my container is nowhere to be seen. There was no one in the restaurant and about 7 people behind the counter, just hanging out. I decide the food isn't worth waiting for, so we head to the counter to pay. I ask for a certain amount to be charged on my friend's card and the rest (minus the cash) to be charged to my card. The cashier barely listens, but says she knows. I check my receipt at home and realized she charged my friend the asked amount, but also charged mine the full amount (my mistake for not checking it earlier, but I just wanted to get out of there). As we're getting into the car, a waitress (not mine) runs out with my box in sheer disbelief that i could POSSIBLY walk away without my leftovers....pfft, as if they're any good anyway.

Lemme tell you, Not the best in the world, though the service is pleasant, and the delivery always quick and friendly! Sushi if only in a mad craving. Though for what it is, this place (and Prices) will not let you suffer from hunger.

My mom seems to like ordering from here when she wants cheap Chinese food to go. Her boyfriend isn't keen on Chinese food and only likes bland americanized dishes. Therefore she selects this place as her default for dinner with him. I have to say overall, it's decent. Not my favorite, but when I have to I eat it. They are affordable and quick in orders. They also have a wide variety in dishes, even for those non-Chinese food eaters ;)

Yet another adorable restaurant in Silver Spring area that my boyfriend and I absolutely love. I remember the first time I went here, I was really, really nervous. Sushi at a Chinese food restaurant?! And the shopping center it's in is a little run down. So those two things combined made me a little hesitant. But I tried it out anyway, and OH MY GOD! what a precious place. First, they play contemporary rock music, which still makes me giggle when I hear it -- totally not what I would expect. In fact, the whole atmosphere is pretty mainstream. It's not trying to be Chinese authentic in its interior, but rather a clean, inviting, average looking restaurant. I've had several things off the menu now -- including the sushi, which by the way is the best sushi in Silver Spring. My boyfriend and I love going there. Most of the time we have the same server, and she remembers what we drink and that we're probably going to order some type of sushi. But we also get Chinese from time to time. The triple delight (I think it's called) is soooooo delicious and plenty for two people -- we usually end up taking some home with us. They offer brown rice alternative if you prefer. After the dinner you get complimentary orange slices and fortune cookie. We always leave this place happy. Always!

We tried this place on a whim as we search for a new Chinese delivery place near the new digs. We ordered our favorites to see how they stacked up against our Capitol Hill haunt and I hate to say it but SG put the 'ol HD to shame, the food was fresher, less oily, sans MSG and if wasnt any cheaper, it sure tasted a whole lot better. We may just quit the search because Im a convert.

  • Angela M.

This place is cute!! It gets Angela's stamp of approval for interior cuteness, but their pictures were all canted a little to the left, so that annoyed me slightly. They have nice track lighting in their dining area, playful paint colors and decorative hanging lights over their sushi bar and checkout counter. It's not awesome, but I think the reason why I was so impressed was because the shopping center is kind of crappy looking on the outside. Really, this place is great for a quick meal or to get some fast to-go decent Chinese food. They have a great assortment of soups and the other usual dishes and then something not as normal for a Chinese place: sushi. Overall, I like this place and I consider it a decent find. I got the wonton soup with spinach, which was unusual, but good. I think I'll stop by here again and try something else when I'm feeling adventurous and craving MSG.

I've been eating here for years so that should say something. They have the fluffiest, stickiest rice. It's great. The fried rice is delicious, from the vegetable to the beef to the chicken fried rice. The white rice is so good I can eat it by itself. I've had just about everything on the menu, I'd say my favorites are the Steamed Mussles, Sauteed Spinach, General Tso's Shrimp and the Chicken with Green Beans. The waitstaff are always cordial and bring the food out quickly. One thing I can say is I've never had to send food back and I've almost never been given the wrong food. My only complaint is the consistency. Sometimes the food is amazing and other times it's so-so. But even the so-so times are still pretty good. If you order here on a good day it's a real treat!

  • Adam H.

This place is right next to a friend of mine's apartment and I've dined in here quite a few times and ordered delivery from them even more. I'd describe their food as pretty good American Chinese Food. Their General Tso's is tasty. Their cuts of chicken aren't too large and they don't use too much batter. Their sesame chicken is nearly identical to their General Tso's. I think the only difference might be that they put chili peppers in the General Tsos. The crispy pineapple chicken is deep fried chicken cutlet, and is like chicken katsu. It's tasty. They give you a sweet pineapple glaze with this dish. I've ordered a sushi roll from them once, it was really good. Spider rolls are one of my favorites and they do it pretty well here. Dining in is nice here. The service is friendly and fast. The delivery is EXTREMELY fast. We've ordered and had the food arrive in less than 15 minutes. It has never been more than 30 minutes. If you live in the area this should probably be your go-to Chinese delivery place.

The food is pretty good but I have become so frustrated with the delivery that I will no longer order take out from Spring Garden. Tonight, they told me the delivery would be within 30-40 minutes. After 50 minutes, I called to check on the order. They told me it had already left. I live less than 5 minutes away. I called again after 55 minutes. They told me it had just left. I asked them to call the driver to find out where he was. They said they couldn't reach him. The food finally arrived after one hour and five minutes. To be repeatedly lied to on the phone is not an acceptable way to do business in my view. This is not the first time I have had this type of experience with Spring Garden's delivery.

Um, I feel I have to defend this place a little. I've eaten here a couple of times and the food's pretty good. No, not 'Finest-in-all-of-Paris' good, but for the money, do people really expect that? My point is, you could do much worse. Some restaurants have no idea how to prepare decent food, but this place knows how. Or at least, I enjoyed what I ordered, and am satisfied so far. The service is good, if not spectacular- they are reasonably attentive here. I for one, hope they stay around for a while. It's a nice addition to a useful strip mall.

This place is the best American-style Chinese food I've had. We eat here with fair frequency. Although it can be a bit hit-or-miss, some of the dishes are usually really great. I think that if I moved away from the area, the food item that I would miss the most is the Spring Garden steamed pork dumplings. I never eat here without having some of those. The salt-and-pepper shrimp and the General Tso's chicken are also usually very good. Other than the occasional quality drop that i mentioned above, my only complaint is that the prices are a little steep. It's not too bad, because it's plenty of food, so I always get at least two meals out of an entree and an order of dumplings. If you can order at lunch, the lunch specials are actually a great deal: lots of food for a pretty low price.

  • Snow T.

Despite the fact that delivery always arrives hot, I would recommend eating in if you can. The food always seems a little better when we eat it there. We always have the same waitress. She is great, and I think she knows our order before we even sit down. Oh, and like someone else mentioned....you can get brown rice with any meal for about a buck extra.

Tried calling 3 times, they kept hanging up on me. Tried online order and it was fast and easy for delivery. The Tofu with Black Bean sauce was okay. The Schezuan Tofu was better, but not very spicy. Will try again!

  • Jillian F.

Honestly this is about the best place in Silver Spring to get Chinese food. The dumplings are as good as it gets. Get the steamed, totally worth it, the fried are good too but you have to wait a little before eating them because they are so hot. The service is great, and the sushi is amazing.

    (5)
  • Mimi X.

Best yet of the delivery/takeout options we've tried so far in the area (that's 5 places total...) I love their dumplings (especially the dipping sauce, YUM) and the hot and sour soup. More than once when I've ordered delivery, they say "30 minutes" and it takes an hour. I don't mind it taking an hour, I just want an accurate prediction. That gets minus one star. Other than that, no complaints. There's no MSG, and there are usually good coupons included when they bring you the delivery menu, so look at it before you toss it.

Spring Garden is a well kept secret in Silver Spring. Their sushi is unbelievable. Get the crunchy roll or the spicy california. If you're looking for a place to call and order pick up, you've found it. Call in an order and it really only takes 10-15 minutes. Fantastic!

  • Christopher E.

When you live in the District, you become accustomed to third-rate Chinese food. Too sweet. Overcooked. Not spicy enough. As a Californian, this is offensive in so many ways. I try to pick up food on my way home from work in Northern Virginia, but finding good take out close my Petworth home has been a chore -- until I found Spring Garden. Spring Garden is consistent, the food is not too sweet. The vegetables taste fresh. And the service is amazing. You can order to go food and be out the door in 5 minutes. And the prices are unreal. Good Chinese food doesn't have to cost a fortune. You should be able to find good food for two for around $20, which is exactly how Spring Garden works out. Their menu is exhaustive, so I haven't even begun to try everything. Their brown rice is absolutely fantastic. Even their fortune cookies are just a step above what you'd expect. Nice and thick and fresh tasting. I found my ideal Chinese restaurant. It only took 3 years.

They're really fast for both pick-up and delivery. Drunken Noodles are really good, other items I've gotten were just OK. But you really can't beat the price. It's certainly the best in the downtown Silver Spring area, which really isn't saying that much.

  • Crystal B.

They can't seem to get any order right. My colleagues and I have stopped ordering from this place because when we open the bag, it's never 100% correct. The food is all right....but not good.

We've been looking for a good Americanized Chinese take-out for a long time. Just tried Spring Garden and we'll certainly be back for another try. We ordered crab cheese wontons, chicken lo mein, roast pork and wonton soup and salt and pepper shrimp. Here's the run down. The wontons were ok. Ok is better than most of what we can find out here on the east coast, so I won't complain too much. They were folded properly (into little blossoms rather than into triangles), but the wrappers aren't right. It seems there are two kinds of wonton wrappers: 1) those that dry sort of matte and yellow and are weirdly pliable, and 2) those that fry up bubbly, golden and are crisp-chewy. Spring Garden has the former; I'm still searching for the latter. Anyway. The lo mein was plentiful, not greasy and al dente. But it's missing a little salt and that good seasoned-wok flavor. They may clean out the woks too well at this place. Another visit will allow me to confirm. The roast pork wonton soup (not the American classic, but a nod to Hong Kong authenticity) was delicious. The pork was. . . well. . . really porky! The broth was rich but plain (as it should be!). They were generous with the greens. The salt and pepper was the true kicker. This is indeed the Americanized version: medium sized prawns (no shells, no tails), in a tempura style batter, perfectly salted and then showered with a confetti of scallions and jalapenos. Absolutely addictive. For these alone, I will be back!! This is good take-out if what you are looking for is American-Chinese food.

Great Sushi! I've had the Crunchy roll and it is Divine, They also have good tofu and vegetables in brown sauce. It's great for a sit down or take out. One major drawback, they don't serve anything but gross plum wine. ick!

  • a d.

yes it's american chinese food, but my goodness some of their dishes are so good! I live in Europe and everytime we come to DC I make a point to eat there at least 4 or 5 times!! I recommend the salt and pepper shrimp, the amazing Singapore noodles, green mussels (even though they are probably frozen) and best shrimp friend rice ever! Great place for your money!

  • Pamela E.

Based on Yelp recommendations, we tried Spring Garden and it didn't disappoint. The hot and sour soup, the salt and pepper shrimp and the garlic eggplant were all terrific. The egg rolls were dry and tasteless, so no repeat here. Even though we arrived at the same time as a large party, we were served quickly and with a smile. We will definitely return to Spring Garden.

Pretty good chinese food. Not too oily, fresh ingredients, use real crab meat and shrimp. The meats arent the stock chewy chinese carry out variety (I'm pretty sure most carry outs get the same cheap meats from the same supplier, thankfully not this place). Service is fast and friendly, they deliver as well. I'd definitely recommend.

very consistently good; no msg and good oils. neighborhood favorite. it's so close to home i usually get take-out. my faves are veggie lo mein, sechuan tofu and the bok choy and black mushroom. don't forget to ask for brown rice!

Have only tried the delivery - never been to the premises. Food a cut above the average Chinese take-away ( which isn't saying a lot as most are pretty bad) that is to say, a few unusual items on menu and they don't go overboard on the brown sauce and broccoli. Better Half had noodles and a nicely prepared mango salad which she said was delicious. i had duck, good, but several pieces tasted like they had been sitting around a while.Very reasonably priced and we will use them again.

The service is fast and friendly. The sushi is surprisingly good. The crispy beef is a must have. The soups for 2 are an incredible value- packed full of enough meat and vegetables to make a full meal for one or an appetizer for 3 or more.

I tried a delivery order from this restaurant this week because of the favorable ratings on yelp. The food overall was just ok. My main complaint was the blandness of the majority of the entrees despite my special instructions. On a positive note, I must say that the food was not overly oily like many Chinese restaurants and the key ingredients tasted fresh, ( I did ask them to use as less oil as possible. ) Less oil did not attribute to the blandness because I always order my Chinese food with those instructions. Here is what I ordered. Beef with Chinese broccoli ( I specified with oyster sauce). They were out of Chinese broccoli therefore the dish was not delivered. Moo Shu Pork - It lacked the toastiness/smokiness from the dark sesame oil and the sauce was not very flavorable. It definitely was edible and filling but just OK. Kung Pao Chicken: ( asked for extra spicy ) It was not spicy enough for me and again lacked assertive flavors. I did not mind the it was not as spicy as requested but the sauce seemed to be lacking in some key spices. Ok, but I have had better. Singapore Rice Noodle: Not enough curry flavor and spicyness. I specifically asked for fresh sliced green chili peppers to be added but they did not comply. Even if they did not have the fresh peppers, they could have added dried chili peppers. Not bad, but still have had better. Combination Lo Mein: Requested with chicken and shrimp only. This was for my daughter. I generally do not eat this but I must confess it probably was the best dish ordered. The flavor and doneness of the noodles were just right and the protein to vegetable ratio was perfect. I would give this dish four stars. My husband also agreed with my review. When I asked him what he thought of the food - He replied, "OK, but kinda bland." Despite my lackluster review, I would probably give them another chance. I ordered on a Monday night and it is often the day the main chef/cook is off in the restaurant business. Oh, the prices were very inexpensive. The delivery took much longer (almost an one hour) than my regular go to delivery Chinese restaurant and I left a 20% tip on my credit card when I ordered. Ammendment: Decided to try Spring Garden again but placed the delivery order myself as opposed to using Foodler.com . I was told that it would take 45 minutes but the food arrived in 30 minutes..Yeah!! This time I also ordered sushi rolls because teenage daughter wanted an eel and avocodo roll. She really enjoyed it.The spicy tuna roll was also good but did not have a hint a heat. The Chinese entrees were average and some were above average. No OMG moments but I failed to state previously that I really liked the option of brown rice (but not when it comes to sushi). I usually crank up the rice cooker when family craves take-out so that I can have my preferred brown rice. Once again. they did not have Chinese broccoli. Perhaps too Chinese and no-one orders it.(OK, ok I confess that I am 1/2 Asian... Japanese.) Daughter and husband liked the General Tsao's chicken because it was not encast in a thick batter. I probably sound like a snob but it this really an authentic Chinese dish? I will give them an additional star but probably never go to the restaurant to eat in. If I am going to get in my car or walk for a meal, then I will then go to a restaurant that will give me that OMG feeling and most Chinese restaurants are not on my list. Exceptions are Paul Kee, Dim Sum at Oriental East and some others that are not in the Silver Spring area but I have not patronized those establishments since my first review.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
